Project Summary:  What's next?

After completing the planning, research and development for this project, I am ready to move forward with production. I have uploaded a test pilot for the channel to this website, and though it is not perfect, it is a nice launch point.  It is through the Agile project management style that I plan to move forward with development. I have realized that I do not need to be perfect at launch. Rather, I will learn and adapt as I proceed. The channel and content will grow and develop with every attempt to move forward.  Upon graduation, the time I have been spending in classes developing each project to completion has taught me how much time I actually have to finish projects. In a few days, this learning and development phase will be what I take with me into the launch and it has provided a solid beginning foundation. Once I can devote my time to production, it will be fun to discover how the work will synthesize with the newly formed knowledge.  I have certainly gained a new list of tools in my toolbox for development. I am so glad that I jumped into the Microsoft Office Suite of creation tools. Using Power Point has been a poignant design tool. I never knew how powerful it was going to be for content development. I have gotten more familiar with Word and attempted to stretch myself in the knowledge of how to make professionally designed documents that flow seamlessly into new content.  I have developed my skills through LinkedIn Learning to understand video editing in Adobe Premiere Pro and developed some new Photoshop and Illustrator skills. I was already a sound engineer who had experience with linear editing in audio production so Premiere was not too great a chasm to cross. However, what has changed is my ability to develop strategic planning strategies that help me to wear all of these hats, to organize my time, and to proceed through the processes necessary to achieve completion for each step of the process.  UNCG and the faculty of the Business Integrate Professional Studies program have granted a rewarding process of development that has enlightened something within me that has allowed me to place all of my skill sets, tools, creativity and personality into place. I am organizing previously chaotic thought processes and ideation toward organized structure which builds success. The path to completion always seemed as though I was grasping at straws that always appeared as a mirage that would disappear as I approached.  I have now proven to myself, and others that these ideas can become a reality, and though they need to be refined in an agile approach, failing and moving forward is the path to successful completion. Each failure inspires new success.  -Mister Josh

Production Notes

Having completed the process for one video, here are the agile learning methods I have come across to enhance production for the future. This is a reflection that will influence the production and post-production process in the future: 1. Remember the audience - As I started recording the first module, it became apparent that I was still speaking to the faculty and students at UNCG. (I have been doing a lot of that.) After spending two hours deciding on how to begin the episode, I remember that I need to concentrate on content, not on process and thinking.  2. Focusing on content allowed me to just teach a lesson - I let go of the script and began to riff my ideas. I have put a ton of thought into this project and now is time to let the content and personality shine. I have a lot of ideas, and I do not need to add all of them to this first video.  3. How to shoot and edit - In the process of producing this video, I was shooting for hours, and then I planned to come back to edit everything.  That method was not going to work for this! It would take so long, and so much time would be spent on documentation for a one-man crew that it would never have gotten done on time.  4. A New Plan and Process - I decided to begin to just improvise the script and jump in, and the energy awoke into the creative process I was looking for. Creation stemmed in an agile manner for once, and I began to develop this module based on the infographics with the ideas just spouting out of my mouth as I went. The process became: a. Record b. Upload c. Import d. Edit This 4-step process generated creativity and became the new cycle for how to come to completion. In an hour and a half, I had 5 minutes of material, a direction to go, and I had begun to use my formulated outline to know where I was going but without always planning how I would get there.  The footage was uploaded to the computer, imported to the editor, and edited for half a show! 5. The Rough Draft is Created: In this process, I realized that I will used the rough draft exercise to build a refined version which will be formulated based on the rough draft which you will see.  There will always be edits that need to be done, but I can minimize jump cuts and streamline my module outline as I progress toward a refined production.  This strategy gets me into the space of the editor, and creates an environment for what is missing and what needs to be cleaned up to produce a final edit that is clean and streamline.  6. You will see the rough cut.  I am showing the rough-cut version on the site because I feel it is important to document the first attempt before I refine this too much. I want to store the energy that I will attempt to bring to the final cut, and I want to bookmark where I am today because it is so raw and valuable to the ethos of the entire project. This will not be the final that goes on YouTube, but it is close.  I will be using the rough cut to provide the direction of the clean format where I eliminate some of the unclean edits, useless banter, and filler words, and streamline meaning. This rough cut has it all, but I am out of time.
