Design Thinking

The first theme of this entire project centers around “Who” the project is designed for? Design thinking begins and adapts through getting to know the target audience through the development of instructional materials. The process of building an agile story line for participants strives to take them on a journey of success in their musical understanding and technical capability.

Understanding the educational, technical and storyline needs of audience members who engage with Mr. Josh’s Neighborhood as primary stakeholders serves to pinpoint the mission of designing edutainment infographics and modular, step-by-step content.

Consideration of who the audience is, adapting to their needs, and making them the star of their success serves to successfully take audience members on a transformative journey of conceptual understanding and technical capability.

The audience must be their own hero, and it is the intent of the design of the educational strategies of ADDIE (long-term journey), SAM (Short-term modular concepts), and the Dick and Carey Model (measurable review and evaluation process) to mindfully construct a successful path which the audience of Mr. Josh’s Neighborhood will traverse.

Design
Thinking

Goal 1:

Discover who the design will impact.

Goal 2:

Identify methods of positive change for users based on a set of personal needs.

Goal 3:

Utilize empathy and human-centric thinking to solve problems, achieve goals and attain desires.

Integrative
Thinking

Goal 1:

Utilize Divergent Thinking to build solutions based on multiple existing problems.

Goal 2:

Integration of multiple designs and systems to generate a more complete system.

Goal 3:

Additively developing prototypes that consider the strengths of multiple systems

Systems Thinking

Goal 1:

Reflect on current in place systems and their positive and negative outcomes.

Goal 2:

Observe how a new system achieves positive outcomes

Goal 3:

Test to solve positive and negative results of current systems for users

Contemporary Media Literacies

Now that it has been established that ADDIE presents the Chapter Goal, SAM needs a platform to jump from. The SAM vehicle will be wrapped up in modular development of a vehicle called Infographics, which will serve as the modular activity basis for the Edutainment model of Mr. Josh’s Neighborhood.

These Infographics are intended to serve a broad spectrum of users because the primary intended audiences are very broad in age, location, usability and education level. To provide balance in the educational and pedagogical models, Digital Literacy must be simple because the educational content is not. All users will need simplicity in their digital literacy and capability which is why the form of usage is best suited to online video publishing. This Digital Literacy simplicity assists at least two major functions.

Primarily, access is provided with an “anywhere and anytime” capability. If an audience member wants to take a lesson, they can gain access through ease of access without the need of technological skill through previously gained simplicity of knowledge provided by major tech companies and developers without the need for extra applications or development. This provides access to older generations whose worldview was formed before or simultaneous to the formation of the internet and modern technological advances.

Secondly, Digital Literacy in younger generations is enhanced by Mr. Josh’s Neighborhood because of the constant consumption younger generations to seek online knowledge and education. Their comprehensive use of digital literacy is enhanced by the overtly analogue, physical world nature of music instruction and further by the tangible activity of playing the violin or other instruments. This is intended to healthily integrate them inside of the digital world in which they most often exist by providing new and tangible means of meaning making.

Infographics on Digital Platforms make use of symbols, charts and graphs which can engage a broad spectrum of users through a primarily visual means in a primarily visual digital world to strengthen the secondary auditory and tactile senses that are much more necessary to understand in musical practice and performance. The use of these infographics is the basis of the edutainment launch pad which keeps audiences engaged and moving toward their final ADDIE destinations.

Digital literacy or the lack thereof must be simple and invisible because the content is not which appeals to and serves the needs of a broad spectrum of audience participation.
